Green Waste Recycling
We accept clean green waste — yard trimmings, branches, brush, palm fronds, grass, and landscape clearing debris — from landscapers, property managers, tree services, and homeowners across San Diego County. Loads need to be free of trash, treated lumber, dirt, and rock, since contamination is what forces otherwise good material into a landfill.
There is a regulatory dimension to this as well. California's organic waste diversion law, SB 1383, requires jurisdictions and many businesses to keep organics out of landfills, and landscape debris is squarely in scope. Organic material buried in a landfill breaks down without oxygen and produces methane, a far more potent greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide. Processed above ground instead, the same material becomes mulch and soil amendment that improves water retention and reduces fertilizer dependence.
What We Can and Cannot Take
- Accepted: yard and landscape trimmings, grass, leaves
- Accepted: branches, brush, and clean woody debris
- Accepted: palm fronds and tree service material
- Not accepted: trash, plastic, or general refuse
- Not accepted: treated, painted, or pressure-treated lumber
- Not accepted: dirt, sod, rock, concrete, or stumps with soil
